Services set April 18 for Ronny Bumpus

Ronny Bumpus, 83, died April 12, 2026, at his home in Lampasas.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church on April 18 at 3 p.m., with visitation an hour prior. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel has charge of arrangements.

Bumpus was born on Oct. 7, 1942, in Kilgore to John and Norma “Brownie” Nichols Bumpus.

He moved to Lampasas in 1951 after living in Gladewater and Odessa. He graduated from Lampasas High School in 1961.

After high school, he attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, where he received a Bachelor of Science in agriculture.

He worked for Master Mix Feeds in Uvalde, Kinney County Wool & Mohair, and Brackettville ISD before returning to Lampasas and joining his father-in-law, W.R. Fuller, in business at Lampasas Butane Gas Co. in 1971. Bumpus would own and operate the propane and Whirlpool appliance business until his retirement in 2004.

He married Sue Ellen Fuller in 1964 in Lampasas. They were married for 61 years.

Bumpus was a member of First Baptist Church in Lampasas. He enjoyed raising American Quarter Horses and American Paint Horses. Throughout the years, he was involved with the Lampasas County Livestock Association, Texas High School Rodeo Association, Texas Senior Pro Rodeo Association and National Old Timers Rodeo Association. He loved cheering on the Battlin’ Badgers, especially Badger football.

In 2023, Bumpus was recognized by the American Quarter Horse Association as one of 23 “50-Year Cumulative Breeders” for those who registered at least one foal cumulatively for the total years of the award.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John Robert Bumpus, and his greatnephew, Miller Bumpus.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Ellen of Lampasas; his daughter, Amy (Michael) Harlien of Lubbock; his brother, Mark (Earl Ann) Bumpus of Belton; his sisterin-law, Jane Bumpus of Lampasas; granddaughters Kate and Ellen Jane Harlien of Lubbock; nephews Rob Bumpus of Georgetown, Rex Bumpus and Ron (Jaci) Bumpus of Lampasas, and Marshall (Lindsey) Bumpus of Houston; niece, Katy (Blake) Hartt of Belton; as well as greatnephews and great-nieces and an endless list of others.
