Green Thumb program to present information on culinary herbs

The Highland Lakes Master Gardener Association will offer its next Green Thumb Program on Oct. 19 from 11 a.m. to noon at Lakeshore Library, 7346 Ranch Road 261 in Buchanan Dam. Master Gardener Lyn Mefford will address “Using Cloth Planters to Create Portable Culinary Herb Gardens.

Players take home prizes from Community Bridge

Community Bridge welcomed 24 players at its September gathering. Sylvia Miller took home first place, Margaret Oberender was second, and Tom Casbeer was third. The slam prize went to Beth Griess and Lou Wiginton. The next play date will be Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.

The Pierian Club met Sept. 12 in the historic M.D. Abel Co. office building, formerly known as the Manuel Hardware building on East Third Street. President Alicia Straley called the meeting to order at 4 p.m. Twenty-one of the 22 active members were in attendance, along with an honorary member.

Problems arise with the Lampasas municipal water supply

DISTRICT COURT

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened last week for its only court setting scheduled this month. Judge John Gauntt presided over the day’s hearings. Defendant Rayphiel Porter received seven years’ deferred probation on a charge of engaging in organized criminal activity.

Infant in critical condition after dog attack

A Kempner infant is in critical condition after a family dog reportedly attacked the baby Tuesday night. In a statement released Thursday morning, Lampasas County Sheriff’s Department officials said they received a call at 10:38 p.m. Sept. 19 from a residence in the 100 block of Private Road 4951.
