Governor calls special session for legislators

The Texas Legislature commenced its third special session of the year on Monday to address the priorities laid out by Gov. Greg Abbott. Abbott announced the agenda for the special session on Friday, highlighting the importance of school choice and border security legislation.

Browning Garden Club to tour home garden with native plants

The Browning Community Garden Club will hold its next monthly meeting Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. Note the change in meeting location: Certified Master Gardener Gail Eltgroth will present “Landscaping with Texas Natives,” followed by a tour of her home gardens outside Lometa.

Hydroponics gardening program scheduled for Oct. 21

The AgriLife Extension Service will offer a Mills & Lampasas County Range Tour Oct. 27 at the Bar J Ranch, 32 County Road 220 in Goldthwaite. Speakers will be landowners, Extension agents and Natural Resource Conservation Service personnel.

Retired Teachers Association receives update on Proposition 9

Election Day 2023 has a lot of meaning for retired teachers across Lampasas County. Former public schoolteachers are hopeful voters will say “yes” on Proposition 9 so they can receive a cost-of-living adjustment.

LPD welcomes new police officer

The Lampasas Police Department has welcomed Officer Megan Hale to the department. Hale graduated from the Central Texas College Police Academy Sept. 22 and began her field training last week.
