Home along FM 1690 engulfed by flames

Grass fires on the rise with drier conditions

As temperatures rise and few raindrops fall, the likelihood of wildfires is set to increase, according to the Lampasas Fire Department.Wildfires are common from August to October due to high heat and extended dry conditions.

A new Sons of Confederate Veterans camp was formally organized in Lampasas on Aug. 10.Lampasas Methodist Church played host to the chartering event, which was attended by 35 people. A meal of barbecue brisket, beans and cornbread was served before the ceremonies.

National blood shortage exists; next drive is Sept. 10

The American Red Cross has declared a national blood emergency, noting a shortfall of 19,000 donations in July that caused the blood supply to plummet by 25%.Now, remnants of Hurricane Debby are complicating efforts to rebuild the supply, Red Cross officials said.

Remodeling in the works

Chairs can be seen stacked outside the Country Kitchen as renovations to the Lampasas eatery continue. Since July 15, the restaurant has been closed so work can be done to improve the dining experience for customers. The Country Kitchen expects to reopen soon on Key Avenue.
