GOOD FRIDAY CANTATAMusicians from several local churches will present “Harvest of Sorrows” by Joseph Martin for two performances on Good Friday: noon and 6 p.m. The community cantata, directed by Shannon Gallinger, will be presented at First Presbyterian Church, 401 S. Chestnut.

Commissioners Court rescinds countywide outdoor burn ban

The Lampasas County Commissioners Court on Monday elected to rescind the 90-day burn ban that had been intended to last until June 8.Also, commissioners selected Heavenly Scent as its new contracted custodial service for the county courthouse and office buildings.

Bluebonnets still holding on

Some pockets of early-blooming wildflowers remain visible in the county. Drought conditions across the Hill Country have hindered Texas bluebonnets, but late-blooming wildflowers could make a resurgence if spring rains prevail.

’36 Club brings home awards from recent Capitol District gathering

Juli Chaney received the Outstanding Clubwoman Volunteer of the Year award at the April 2 meeting of the Capitol District of the General Federation of Women’s Club.The meeting took place in Killeen.The Lampasas ’36 Club also earned six other awards.

O’Neal offers presentation on ’Miracle at San Jacinto’

The Lampasas County Historical Commission and Oran Milo Roberts Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas co-hosted a presentation April 7 by Dr. Bill O’Neal on “The Miracle at San Jacinto.
