TPWD seeks changes on state rules for mountain lion hunting

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has proposed new rules for hunters and trappers to report mountain lion harvests.Mountain lions are relatively uncommon, secretive animals that once roamed across the entire United States, but today they are limited largely to the western third of the country.

Area-wide soaking fills creeks across county

Cherokee Creek near Bend runs over a low-water crossing after the area received about 3.7 inches from May 19-26. The Lower Colorado River Authority reported a moderate rise in creeks and rivers after a prolonged wet spell this month. Cherokee Creek rose from around 4.

Commissioners agree to continue indigent defense position

With few action items on the table, the Lampasas County Commissioners Court kept it short in Tuesday’s regular meeting.

LCHEC no longer in operation

The Lampasas County Higher Education Center has dissolved officially and no longer is active.According to former LCHEC Director Derrick Berrios, who left his position in September 2025, the facility closed in April due to funding issues.

Primary runoff election results mirror state vote

Republican Party voters who participated in Tuesday’s runoff election knocked off incumbent Sen. John Cornyn and chose Ken Paxton instead to be the party’s candidate for U.S. Senate.Paxton is slated to go up against Democratic Party challenger James Talarico in the November General Election.

Public meetings set to discuss plan for Post Oak Ridge State Park
