BBQ for Books sets record

BBQ for Books sets record

An annual event for the Library Foundation of Lampasas, Texas resumed this year after a several-year hiatus, initiated by coronavirus concerns. This year’s BBQ for Books fundraiser, however, surpassed the previous record of meals sold by more than 100, according to foundation volunteers.

Bowling event to raise funds to benefit Toys for Tots

A bowling tournament will be held Nov. 13, starting at 9 a.m. at Putters & Gutters Fun Center in Lampasas. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Fee is $100 per team, with a four-person team format to be used. Half the proceeds will go toward payouts for the first-, second- and third-place teams.

New bridge group forming

A new open bridge group, called Community Bridge, has formed in Lampasas. For many years, Daughters of the Republic of Texas sponsored a game day at the Hostess House. Since COVID hit in 2020, the group has not met but has now re-organized and will begin play on Nov. 7 at 1 p.m.

Hodges & Sargent Pharmacy to expand into former bank facility

The owners of Hodges & Sargent Pharmacy are expanding their business into the former bank building that sits next to the Key Avenue pharmacy. The building formerly was home to a Bancorp South branch until it merged with National United.

One pill can kill

This Halloween season, the Texas Department of Transportation and Drug Enforcement Agency are teaming up with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s “Watch UR BAC” program to spread awareness on the fentanyl epidemic in the state.

Enchilada dinner fundraiser planned

Keeping It Local and The Community Kitchen have teamed up to offer a fundraiser to benefit area children. These groups will hold an enchilada dinner Oct. 23 from 1-5 p.m. at the Lampasas Fire Station, 1107 E. Fourth St. Plates are $10 each. Dinein and to-go options are available.

Local author selected for Texas Word Wrangler event

Local author Vannetta Chapman has been selected as a featured author for the Nov. 18-19 Texas Word Wrangler Book Festival in Giddings. The annual festival, which attracts hundreds of attendees, is hosted by the Giddings Public Library.
