Diamondback Jubilee rounds up another great year

Lometa’s annual Diamondback Jubilee made a successful return last weekend, inviting the community to enjoy new events and a time of family fun.

Film release inspires local actress in cinematic career

Girl Scout Sunday celebrated this month

On March 12, First Presbyterian Church hosted local Girl Scout troops in honor of Girl Scout Sunday. The worship service was led by Joyce Taylor, who brought a message about “The Pearl of Great Price.” Scouts took part in the service and gave personal testimonies.

Central Christian Church to celebrate 140 years

Central Christian Church began as a humble idea from A.P. Aten, an ordained Disciples of Christ minister, who started Aten College in Lampasas. Some records state that the first services were held in the Lampasas County Courthouse, with the congregation calling its first pastor, V.R.

Keeping the heart healthy

More than 40 Lampasas Independent School District students received electrocardiogram tests on Tuesday to check for irregular heartbeats. The effort was sponsored by the Lampasas Lions Club, which donated $1,000 to the Cody Stephens Foundation for students to receive the testing.

Lometa Bank receives historic plaque commemorating 1915 shootout

Lometa’s Cadence Bank is now home to a new commemorative plaque provided by the Lampasas County Historical Commission. The plaque tells the events of a 1915 shootout at that location, which resulted in the death of J.J. Connell, famous for being a one-armed constable. The assailant was F.W.

Historical Commission defines itself; seeks new members

In a drive for expansion, the Lampasas County Historical Commission is seeking new members. The requirements are residency in the county and to attend as many meetings as possible, ideally seven out of 10 a year. Meetings are held the fourth Monday of each month at 3:30 p.m.
