With about half the team playing through injuries, the Badgers beat Hamilton 71-55 on the road New Year’s Eve. For the third game in a row, the Badgers (13-1) overcame a first-quarter deficit, and their winning streak stands at 12 games.

Despite missing out on the four-team playoff, the Texas A&M Aggies finished with their best winning percentage since 1994, at 9-1. The No. 5 Aggies beat No. 13 North Carolina 41-27 in the Orange Bowl on Saturday.

The Badgers (12-1 at press time) trailed after the first quarter in back-to-back games this week but rallied to win both. On Monday at home, Lampasas beat Thorndale 71-49 after trailing by 11 late in the second quarter.

The Lady Badgers led at the end of every quarter in road victories on Tuesday at St. Michael’s in Austin and at Giddings on Wednesday.

The LHS alumni beat the Badger varsity soccer team 5-4 on Tuesday. In the first half, Victor Castruita scored for the varsity on an assist by Cody Woods.

The Lometa vasity girls won their third straight game with an even bigger margin over Faith Academy than they had earlier this month. Lometa won 63-20 on the road Tuesday after beating the Lady Flames 48-20 before Christmas.

Most local athletic teams had a promising start to their seasons, but the coronavirus quarantine stopped spring sports in their tracks. Others, like the Badger football and Lady Badger basketball teams, saw great seasons end with a tough draw early in the playoffs.
