The Lometa Hornets improved to 2-1 in district and kept the Rochelle Hornets winless in district on Tuesday in varsity boys’ basketball. The Hornets won 64-31 and led at the end of every quarter.

Alycia Cantu, a Lady Badger softball player, was the starting catcher for Team Red, the champions of an invitation-only USSSA softball tournament last weekend in Florida. Cantu’s team was undefeated.

When the Model 94 Winchester is mentioned, one thinks of a saddle carbine, maybe a brush gun for deer hunting or even western movies where the cowboys and Indians fought it out with guns that never ran out of ammunition.

The Badgers are a secondhalf team, but on Friday they hit their stride a little too late against Glen Rose. The 62-52 district loss was the Badgers’ first defeat at home all season, and it broke a 14-game win streak that stretched back to November.

Alyssa Ayers was named the Lightweight Lifter of the Meet after winning her weight class by 230 pounds in the Lampasas powerlifting invitational on Thursday. Ayers tied two of her school records, in squat and bench press.

Lampasas (3-6) went 2-2 in the Fredericksburg varsity girls’ soccer tournament, either shutting out or being shut out in every match. The highlight was an 8-0 blowout over Fox Tech, with Becca Nobles scoring three goals.
