Sam Zmolik and Mario Aguirre won the District 6-4A boys’ tennis doubles title on Tuesday in Stephenville. They came from behind They came from behind for a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win on the second day of district competition, beating Gatesville in the finals.

Alycia Cantu drove in Autumn Beisel-Macomber for the game-winning run with one out in the seventh inning as Lampasas got past Brownwood 5-4 in varsity district softball. Cantu was 3-3 at the plate, with three runs batted in and a walk. She leads the team with a .493 batting average and a .521 on-base percentage.

The Badgers were unable to take down district-leader Stephenville Tuesday night, as Lampasas lost 2-0 to the ‘Jackets. The loss moves Lampasas to 6-3 in the district, with Stephenville now standing at 6-1.

Lampasas placed third as a team, and athletes in several events won top medals at the area track meet in Mineral Wells on Wednesday. Long jumper Cade White, the Badgers’ 4x100-meter relay team and 400-meter runner Cody Hinson won gold.

The Lampasas Middle School Badgers walked away with a 2-0 win Monday night over the Taylor Ducks. The match started off slowly, coach Edward Gold said, adding that goalkeeper Michael Clayton was “able to keep a clean sheet with an outstanding first half.” In the second half, the Badgers started to find their rhythm, the coach said.

The Lometa Hornets won the boys’ tennis district championship as a team on Monday and Tuesday in Brady. The Lady Hornets were second in their division. Four Lometa players qualified for the regional meet, which is April 26 in Whitney.

The Lampasas Middle School girls’ soccer season started Monday with a 5-0 loss against Taylor. The Lady Badgers were down 0-4 at the half.
