Outfielder Douglas Hodo III runs bases for the Texas Longhorns, who fell 2-1 against Mississippi State Sunday night in the Longhorns’ 37th College World Series apperance. Hodo is a Boerne graduate who played against Lampasas in the 2019 bi-district series that the Badgers won after days of storm delays. On Monday, the second week of the Georgetown league, Lampasas rotated in its younger players more, and seasoned seniors like Brister and Dax Brookreson saw slightly less action. Sanchez and Brookreson both spent time at quarterback. Lampasas beat Georgetown’s Second Team 4 touchdowns to 0 (extra points were not counted) and beat Liberty Hill’s JV 3 touchdowns to 1, but lost to Liberty Hill’s varsity 3 touchdowns to 1. JEFF LOWE

Layton Eckermann won by seven strokes in his first Beltway Junior Golf tournament of the summer on Wednesday at Hancock Park. Eckermann had a ninehole score of 47 on his home course in the Boys’ Bronze Division. Brayden Brewer, another Lampasan, placed second at 54.

The Lampasas Sluggers 14U baseball team will host a rematch against Gatesville for the Lampasas County Youth League title on June 18 at 7 p.m. The league is based in Lampasas but includes some teams from Gatesville and Jonesboro.

In the Hamilton summer basketball league on Monday, Lampasas once again had to play with just one sub, and the Badgers came up short against Priddy and Early. Aaron Nuckles, who coaches LHS during the UIL season, said Lampasas “ran out of gas with the six that were playing, but [we] got a lot of good out of the evening.” Early and Lampasas were within two points of each other before a big run by the Longhorns put the game away.

Lampasas’ First Team beat Burnet 38-30 on Monday in the Hill Country Hoops girls’ league in Lampasas. Burnet had several of the same players who were on a 21-3 team in the UIL season this year.

Badger football players Conner Keele, Sosa Sokimi, Michael Neary, Josh Carter, A.J. Torrez and Nick Torrez teamed up to win Division II of a Lineman Challenge in Burnet on Friday.
