Lampasas High School cross country practice was scheduled to start Monday, July 12. This will be the Badgers’ first season under new head coach Macey Siegert, a former state cross country runner from Seymour.

The Lampasas Soccer Association is seeking players for its boys’ 16U (born in 2007 and younger), 15U (born in 2008 and younger) and 13U (born in 2009 and younger) teams. LSA teams play in the Capital Area Youth Soccer Association leagues and travel to away games in the greater Austin area. Home games are played in Lampasas. Currently, no girls’ teams are formed due to insufficient interest.

Lampasas Middle Schooler Aidan Nuckles was the leading scorer with 14 points as his 14U Next Level basketball team defeated a Killeen-Copperas Cove team by a score of 41-23 in the Skyhook International tournament at Round Rock Sports Center.

Under cloudy skies and warm air Wednesday morning, father-son duo Daniel and Rory Chapman waited patiently for their cane pole to make some movement – a sign of contact with a fish. “Dad, I just want to go in there and grab one with my bare hands,” the 7-year-old Rory said to his father.

The Toughest 10K in Texas race starts at 7 a.m. Saturday from the pavilion in Hancock Park. Race-day registration begins at 6 a.m. The Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Spring Ho event also offers a 5K and a one-mile run, which share a portion of the 10K route. FILE GRAPHIC

Hunters looking for a new opportunity or a change of scenery this fall are encouraged to check out the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s drawn hunt permits program. Applications are being accepted now for a shot at almost 10,000 permits in 61 hunt categories.
