Lampasas came up short in a tough loss Friday night to the Canyon Lake Hawks in the second-to-last district football game of the season. The Badgers took their final lead in the game with 10:02 left in the fourth quarter, when Dylan Sanchez slammed through a Canyon Lake defender from one yard out.

The Lometa Hornets were unable to come away with a district championship in their final regular-season game of the year against Jonesboro last Friday. The final score was 60-14.

The Lampasas freshman and junior varsity teams split their games against Canyon Lake last Thursday. The freshman Badgers beat Canyon Lake 20-0.

The Badgers will face the Canyon Lake Hawks on Friday night as they push for the second spot in District 13-4A Division I. Canyon Lake will present a unique challenge for the Badgers with their slot-T style offense, which generates most of their yardage on the ground.

Ace Whitehead set records at Lampasas as a Badger quarterback and pitcher for four years. Now he is looking to make his mark in Austin with the Texas Longhorns.

The Lampasas boys’ cross country team and a couple of Lady Badger runners ran in Lubbock on Monday at the regional meet and performed admirably. Abby Valdez finished 38th overall.

The junior varsity football team was in action last week against the LBJ Jaguars, and Lampasas had hopes of moving to 3-0 in district play. The Badgers were dominant in the victory and beat the Jaguars 41-6 to stay undefeated.

The Badgers came flying out of the gates and scored on the first offensive snap of the game Friday night, but they couldn’t keep up with the LBJ Jaguars over four quarters. Lampasas suffered its first district loss of the year, as LBJ won 88-42.
