The Lampasas City Council voted last week to approve the first reading of an ordinance to prevent registered sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of schools, parks and other specified places where children gather.

The Duke University Talent Identification Program is honoring academically talented seventh-graders for their scores on the ACT or SAT college entrance exams. This year’s honorees include Luke Rogers and Aspen Wheeler of Lampasas Middle School.

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller will be the featured speaker at the April 23 meeting of the Lampasas County Republican Club. 
The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the first-floor meeting room at the Lampasas County Office Building, 409 S. Pecan St. across from the courthouse.  
Miller hails from Stephenville. He is an eighth-generation farmer and rancher and a graduate of Tarleton State University. A former state representative, he has served as the state’s commissioner of agriculture since January 2015.
Miller believes that “with God’s help and a little cowboy logic we can keep Texas on the right trail.”
