AgriLife celebrates National Diabetes Month

In November, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension recognizes National Diabetes Month. This year’s slogan is “Small Steps, Big Difference” and focuses on changes that can help prevent diabetes.

Free a capella concert scheduled

Two a capella singing groups are slated to perform for the community during a free concert titled “Songfest 2021.” The event is Saturday from 6-7:30 p.m. at First Street Church of Christ, 201 W. First St. in Lampasas.

Have a happy -- and safe -- Halloween this weekend

Lampasas law enforcement agencies provided safety tips for families and motorists in the hope that everyone has a safe and happy Halloween. “We really need to treat every child as our own and do our best to keep everyone safe,” Lampasas County Sheriff Jess Ramos said.

Police chief speaks to retired teachers group

Chief of Police Sammy Bailey was the guest speaker at the October meeting of the Lampasas County Retired Teachers Association. Bailey presented helpful information about elder abuse and scams that might occur targeting retirees.

Natural Resources Conservation Service seeking applicants for summer collegiate student internships

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service is looking for collegiate student interns. Trainee positions include soil conservationists, rangeland management specialists and engineers. These positions normally are for two consecutive summers before graduation, and allow students to work under the mentorship of NRCS staff. The experience can lead to being hired with the agency upon graduation. Internships open in Texas can be found by searching NRCS in Texas at www.usajobs.gov/.
