School personnel have overcome a host of challenges this semester to continue providing students the resources and environment they need to learn. As they anticipate a holiday break in the next few weeks, Lampasas Independent School District support staff reflected on the changes in their jobs this semester, and students offered them thanks for working to keep schools operating.

A new free class series, “Healthy Carbohydrates,” is offered to adults interested in learning how carbohydrates can be incorporated into a healthy meal plan. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service series dives into how carbohydrates work in the body, incorporating them into a simple plate and finding your right amount.

Several local 4-H awards were presented recently. The Rookie Award went to Vivien Martin.

Zoé Marie Bradley has been named a member of Phi Sigma Theta National Honor Society at Tarleton State University in Stephenville. Phi Sigma Theta recognizes academic achievement in undergraduates at institutions of higher learning.

Rachel Wolfe of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, became the bride of Joshua Ray Schmidgall on Sept. 19, 2020.

One site on the Lampasas County Museum’s Dec. 6 Tour of Homes is the Merritt Romans residence at East Second and Live Oak streets. Romans has a private collection of thousands of rocks, crystals and fossils that will be displayed for the tour. Tickets for the museum fundraiser are $10 each.

FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH TO HOLD CHRISTMAS CANTATA First Methodist Church will host its 73rd annual Community Christmas Cantata Dec. 13 featuring proprietary renditions of classic carols.

Residents are urged to shop for holiday gifts locally. That is one way to support the local economy and Texas as the state recovers from the COVID-19 recession.
