Kline Whitis Elementary School named its students who had perfect attendance for the first semester of the school year. PERFECT ATTENDANCE PreKindergarten: Bradley Milam, Bodhi Poste, Hendrix Beavers, Daeden Ada, Joaquin Amador, Samantha Amador, Ryleigh Larue-Beasley, Abbie Barbero and Ava Latham.

American Red Cross blood drive is Monday

The next American Red Cross Community Blood Drive is set for Feb. 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the First Street Church of Christ fellowship hall, 201 W. First St. Photo ID or Red Cross donor card is required.

LHS student wins writing contest

Lampasas High School senior Chris Ybarra placed first in the Lone Star Writing Contest, co-sponsored by the Interscholastic League Press Conference and Texas Press Association. The contest features student work published in a Texas newspaper.

TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY Abigale Catherine Carson graduated cum laude on Dec. 17 with a Bachelor of Science in education from the College of Education and Human Development, Department of Educational Psychology, at Texas A&M University in College Station.

Lometa Church of Christ has new minister

The Lometa Church of Christ welcomed Minister Jaelyn Downey at the end of last year, and Downey is now serving his new congregation. Downey moved with his wife, Kayla, and daughters Riley (9) and Makenzi (7) to Lometa in November after visiting the church several times, he said.

Badger Band prepares for competition

Although marching season is over, the Lampasas High School Badger Band has been hard at work preparing for region auditions, solo and ensemble competitions, and the UIL concert and sight-reading contest.

HOWARD PAYNE UNIVERSITY Howard Payne University in Brownwood recognized 277 students for academic success during the fall 2020 semester. Students must earn a 4.0 grade-point average to be named to the President’s List, a 3.65-3.99 GPA for the Dean’s List and a 3.5-3.64 GPA for placement on the Honor Roll.

Watershed stewardship training program scheduled Jan. 28

A Texas Watershed Steward workshop will be held Jan. 28 from 1-5 p.m. This workshop is designed to help watershed residents learn about local water resources and how to become involved in watershed protection and management activities.

Lampasas agriculture educator works with Texas Tech students

Retired agriscience instructor/FFA adviser Dr. Steve Forsythe of Lampasas has assumed another responsibility this spring. He will be the university supervisor for three senior Texas Tech University agriculture education majors completing their 12-week field experience.
