Taylor Creek Elementary School fifth-grader Daphne Davenport -- pictured with her main show alpaca, Prince Dauntless -- took several top honors in alpaca competitions at the Houston Livestock Show.

Daphne, the daughter of Kati and Col. William Davenport, took first place in alpaca costume, garnered first place in junior alpaca performance and was named overall grand champion for junior alpaca performance.

The 11-year-old also captured first place in the junior public relations contest -- meaning her alpaca does well around people and in parades, and can be a therapy animal someday.

Daphne and her family raise alpacas at Artillery Creek Alpacas, their farm north of Kempner. Proceeds from farm sales and bookings benefit families affected by childhood cancer, according to the Artillery Creek website.
