Connie McMurry Simmons, 81, of Lampasas died Nov. 16, 2018 at Scott & White Medical Center in Temple.

Visitation is set for Nov. 23 from 5-7 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Burial in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery wii be Nov. 27 at 11 a.m.

Connie was born April 11, 1937 in Waxahachie, the daughter of Verene Marvin McMurry Sr. and Birdie Ruth (Peeples) McMurry.

Connie grew up in the East Austin area and graduated from Round Rock High, where she was senior class favorite and secretary. She had worked as an operator for the phone company, in retail for Kruger Jewelers and Louis Shanks in Austin, and in Lampasas at Walmart as a pharmacy tech and cashier.

Connie was a homemaker who loved her plants and roses and caring for all types of animals, especially cats.

She was married to Rex A. Simmons and had been a resident of Lampasas since 1996.

Connie is survived by her husband; three daughters, Donna Pearson Liles (Ron), Pam Neans and Glenda Neans Speck (Trey), all of Round Rock; granddaughter, Lindsey Pearson; sister, Barbara Graves of Tennessee; and brothers, Miley Akers (Sandra) of Bastrop and Monte Akers (Mary) of Dripping Springs.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sonny McMurry and Mike Akers.
