Varda Lee (Simon) Childers Scoggins, 95, of Normangee, Texas died Dec. 18, 2018 at home.
Funeral service will be Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas. Visitation is Dec. 21 from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in Hillsdale Cemetery near Izoro.
She was born Oct. 21, 1923 in Lampasas, the daughter of Edward “Buck” Simon and Beatrice “Bee” (Smart) Simon.
Varda did bookkeeping for Surety Savings and Loan, and finished her work life as a church secretary. She had lived mostly in Humble and more recently in Normangee with her family. She loved shopping, watching baseball, playing softball until she exceeded the age limit, and attending grandchildren’s sports activities.
She was married to O.V. Childers and later married Curtis Scoggins.
Survivors are son, David Childers and Elizabeth Ann of Normangee; daughter-inlaw Carolyn “Cissy” Childers; grandchildren, Mickey Childers and Slinda, Jeremy Childers, Heath Childers, Dusty McBryde and Zachery Childers; greatgrandchildren, Kaytie, Joshua, Shea, Sammantha, Evie, Darrell, Augustus, Cheyenne, Emaly, Delaney, Hayden and Mason; two great-great-grandchildren, Joshue and Maddox; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Lynn Childers; sisters, Dottie Shroyer, Mary Smith and Jeffy Furber; brothers, Tom Simon, Ray Simon, Harvey Simon, Donald Simon and Leo Simon; and by a grandson, Jake Childers.
