Lynon Norman Preston died Sept. 18, 2018. Graveside service was held Sept. 23 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas. Sneed Funeral Chapel had charge of arrangements.

Lynon was born in Crowell, Texas on Nov. 11, 1928 to Earl and Gleynn Norman. She was raised in Lockney.

She married James Houston Preston in 1946, and they were married for 64 years.

Lynon raised four children in Austin. She worked 20 years for the IRS and later owned a florist shop. She enjoyed volunteering with Seton Medical Center Auxiliary and local garden clubs.

Upon retirement, she moved to Lampasas. Lynon was an avid reader, gardener and seamstress in her spare time, and she enjoyed traveling with family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Janis L. Howell of Cedar Park, Debra A. Valentine of Houston, Kathy L. Thompson and husband Tommy of Uvalde, and Hal J. Preston of Plano; four grandchildren, Glenn and James Valentine of Houston, and Caitlin and Ben Howell of Austin; one step-granddaughter, Debra Thompson Stifflemire of Uvalde; four greatgrandchildren, Luke, Peyton, John and Emma; three sisters, G.E. Cummings and husband Sterling of South Plains, Kay Hall of Hereford and Beverly Holifield of Lockney; a sister-in-law, Billy J. Vickers of San Angelo; a brother-in-law, Max Preston of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
