Yvonne Harton of Lampasas died July 24, 2020.
The memorial service is July 29 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Lampasas. Sneed Funeral Chapel has charge of arrangements.
On Dec. 7, 1928 in Ding Dong, Texas, she was born to I.B. “Bert” and Dovie “Dick” Bell. Her mother and dad had no ideas for names, so they let Dick’s friend name her Martha Yvonne. She was born into a big family of two brothers, Denny and Bud, and three sisters, Hollie, Elwanda and Jane. Yvonne was the baby of the family.
When she was 2, the Bell family moved to Maxdale, where her father had a grocery store. Yvonne attended Maxdale School, which only went through seventh grade. After seventh grade, the children rode a school bus into Killeen to attend school.
During this time, the Bells bought a small farm west of Killeen, and Yvonne attended her freshman and sophomore years in Killeen. They lived there only a short time because the government bought their land during the Camp Hood expansion.
The Bells then bought a place south of Briggs. This is where Yvonne finished her last two years of high school along with six other students. One of those in her class was Harold Harton, whom she fell in love with. She and Harold graduated in May 1945 and were married in December that year. They were 17 years old.
On Sunday mornings, the family was always at church. At age 11, Yvonne was baptized in the Lampasas River. She became a member of First Baptist Church in Lampasas in 1947, and through the years loved visiting with old and new friends at church, as well as working in the Sunday School office. She and June Davis loved showing their pictures of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Yvonne was especially grateful for all the morning hugs from those who stopped by.
She is survived by her husband, Harold; daughter, Charlotte Bell and husband Joe; son, Hal Harton and wife Sue; granddaughters Dawn Sappington and husband Steve, Marci Tomme and husband Dean, and Holly Sheppard and husband Bradley; a grandson, Scott Harton; step-grandsons Greg Bell (Sarah) and Jason Bell (Gigi); great-grandchildren Sadie Sappington and fiancé Dylan Kleppel, Maddie Grace Tomme and Jaxon Tomme, and Ephraim Sheppard and Eli Sheppard; step-greatgrandsons Andrew and Joseph; and one sister, Jane Richards.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her greatgranddaughter Sarah Sappington; brothers Denny Bell and Bud Bell; sisters Hollie Miller and Elwanda Medart; and by a nephew, Tom Medart.
Memorials may be made to Sarah Sappington Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o First Texas Bank (Attn: Annie Trotter), or the Scottish Rite Hospital for Crippled Children.
