LaVaye M. Billings of Lampasas died on Sept. 17, 2019, surrounded by her children in her own home.
A service will be held for her at Sneed Funeral Chapel on Sept. 22 at 3:30 p.m.
LaVaye was born to Ross and Mildred (Thomas) Roye on April 9, 1933 in Summerfield, Texas. She graduated from Borger High School in 1950 and from Wayland Baptist College in 1959.
She married Edward S. Billings in Borger on July 3, 1952. They met at Wayland Baptist College in Plainview.
They lived in many places throughout their lives including El Paso, Cisco, Plainview; Alameda, California; Lahore, West Pakistan; Bloomington, Indiana; Houston, Borger and finally Lampasas.
LaVaye was an elementary and middle school teacher, and she taught in Pakistan for a year while her husband went there to teach on a Fulbright grant. She also taught in Houston until 1986.
LaVaye loved gardening, sewing, telling stories, talking to strangers, helping people, having people in her home, and studying everything from the Bible to history.
She was preceded in death by her sister Letha, brother Tom, and her husband.
She leaves behind her sister Rossetta Hanna; four children, Scott Billings and wife Miriam, Renae Norwood and husband Steve, Sonii Nagel and husband Charles, and Jenny Self and husband Kyle; eight grandchildren, E. Scott Billings, Jordan Billings, Kristin Karnes, Amanda Miller, Bethany Hills, Morgan Ihrig, Luke Self and Andrew Self; and 18 great-grandchildren.
