Daryl Lee Strelow, 78, of Lampasas died May 31, 2019.

Memorial service will be held June 6 at 10 a.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel. A reception will follow at the home.

Daryl was born to Reinhold and Myrtle Strelow on Sept. 11, 1940 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

After he graduated from high school, Daryl entered military service in September 1958. After a brief break from service, he re-entered in September 1969.

He married his first love, Junko Strelow, whom he met at Camp Zama, Japan in 1964. Their daughter Sherry was born at Camp Zama in January 1965. Junko and Sherry accompanied Daryl from Camp Zama to Fort Benning, Germany and Fort Hood. While he served an unaccompanied tour in Korea, Junko and Sherry lived with Francis and Yasuko Houts, Sherry's aunt and uncle.

After Korea, Daryl and Junko were briefly at Fort Lee, Virginia, then finally the family settled at Copperas Cove for what became Daryl's final Army assignment at Fort Hood. He retired with meritorious service in September 1980. After that, he served as a driver's tester at Fort Hood for many years.

Daryl loved to play cards and bingo.

After Junko's death in 1995, he met Lillie Hulene Archie at bingo in 1996. They shared 22 years together.

Daryl was preceded in death by his brothers Richard, Gerald and William Strelow, and sister Carol.

He is survived by his brother Duane (Julie) Strelow; daughter Sherry (John) Taylor; four stepchildren, Doylene (Jimmy) Hopson, Dewey (Luann) Archie, Lana Davidson and Justin Rhyne, all of Gatesville, and Audrey (JW) Bear of Lampasas; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
