Edwin L. McCrea was born in Lampasas, Texas in 1930 to Edgar and Hazel McCrea.
He attended high school in Lampasas and joined the military as soon as he was old enough to do so. He traveled extensively and lived in various states in the U.S., as well as in Japan and Panama.
In 1958 he married Mary Ann Peterschmidt and had two daughters, Jeanne and Lori.
Mr. McCrea served in the military for 20 years and retired to Temple, Texas in 1972 to be closer to his family. He had a second career working for Mobil Chemical in Temple until he retired again in 1989.
In addition to traveling as a hobby, he also enjoyed volunteering and being active in community organizations. He was a member of the local Knights of Columbus group, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also was a proud member of the 865 AAA service unit that served in the Korean War.
Mr. McCrea volunteered at the Courtney Veterans Home and Our Lady of the Angels Shelter. He also was a frequent blood donor at Scott & White Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann; his infant brother Edgar McCrea; and his sisters, Wannah (McCrea) Taylor, Jewel Dean (McCrea) Briggs and Betty (McCrea) Perkins.
He is survived by his daughters, Jeanne McCrea and Lori McCrea-Davis; and by two grandchildren, Emily and Joseph Davis.
Visitation was held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Temple.
The funeral service was Feb. 8 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Temple, with a reception that followed at the church.
A military ceremony will be conducted Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
