Phil B. “Horsefly” McCoury, 85, of Bend died at his residence on Sept. 5, 2020.
Phil was born on April 14, 1935 in Chappel Community in San Saba County to Maynard McCoury and Juanita Kenney. He attended school at Chappel and Bend. Phil was a true farmer and rancher. He also worked for Bend Landscaping for many years. Phil loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Survivors are his wife, Winnie Lou of Bend; two daughters, Diane and Charles Dowdy of College Station, and Phyllis McCoury of Bend; five grandchildren, Justin McCoury and wife Melissa of Bryan, Curtis Lemons and wife Cydney of College Station, LaShonda Keen and husband Steven “Peachy” Keen of Lubbock, Philip Dowdy and wife Gretchen of College Station, and Rebecca Conner and husband D.J. of Bryan; eight greatgrandchildren, Holli Kolby, Cole and Kyle Keen, Carson and Caleb Lemons, Madeline and Wyatt McCoury, and Leann Conner; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, LeAnn Lemons; and one brother and sister-in-law, Billie Bub McCoury and wife Carolyn.
Visitation was held Sept. 7 at Blaylock Funeral Chapel in San Saba. A graveside service will be held Sept. 8 at the Bend Methodist Campgrounds at 2 p.m. with Floyd Hoke and Gilbert Salsado officiating.
Interment will be at Bend Cemetery.
