Lewis Hurt, 87, died Oct. 27, 2020 in Killeen.

He was born on March 16, 1933 in Comanche County, the son of Danford Lewis Hurt and Mabel Jewel (Elliott) Hurt.

He married Rita Joyce Chancellor on Aug. 6, 1953 in Comanche.

Lewis joined the United States Army in 1953 and served for 20 years, retiring from service in 1973. He began his military career serving in Korea during wartime and ended his career having served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War, with several duty stations in Germany, Virginia and Texas in between.

After his retirement from the U.S. Army he began his career with the Santa Fe Railroad. He worked as a machine operator and retired from Santa Fe after 22 years.

Lewis was passionate about old cars and spent many years restoring cars and traveling to car shows.

He is survived by three children, Tony Hurt of Round Rock, Anita “Sissy” Newman of Lampasas, and Danny Hurt of Copperas Cove; three grandchildren, Heather Newman of Lampasas, Houston Hurt of Round Rock, and Dmitri Hurt of Copperas Cove; four great-grandchildren, Hannah Stults (Jordan Anderson), Joshua Beaver, Kelly Beaver and Jackson Beaver, all of Lampasas; and one great-great-granddaughter, Carter Anderson of Lampasas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Joyce Hurt; his parents; a grandson, Tyson Newman; and a son-in-law, Michael Newman.

Visitation will be held at Comanche Funeral Home on Oct. 31 from 2-3:30 p.m.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 1 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Comanche County.
