John Vernon Cook was born in Moline, Texas on Feb. 11, 1928 to Carl D. Cook and Vera O’Neal Cook. He died on Aug. 8, 2019 at The Wesleyan at Scenic, Georgetown.

After a diagnosis of childhood cancer, John went on to graduate from Lometa High School in 1945 and attended John Tarleton Agricultural College.

He married Alice Marie Harrell on June 13, 1947. They celebrated 71 years of marriage before her death in 2018.

He spent his adult life in the Lampasas area working in the construction industry and enjoying farming and ranching endeavors. John and Alice Marie finally retired to their lake house on Lake Buchanan in 2002.

John was preceded in death by his wife.

He is survived by his three sons Randall Cook (Linda), Lynn Cook (Don) and Mike Cook (Terri); two grandchildren, Michelle Cook and Ginnefer Cook; and three greatgrandchildren.

John was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lampasas, where he had served as both a deacon and an elder as well as superintendent of Sunday Schools years ago. He was also a longtime member of Masonic Lodge #546 in Lampasas.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
