Gerald Glyn Brister, 79, of the Lake Buchanan/Burnet area died June 11, 2020 at Kingsland Hills Care Center.

He was born Oct. 15, 1940 in Lampasas to Norman “Shug” Brister and LaVerne (Bagley) Brister.

He attended Southwest Texas State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree and later graduated from Texas A&M University with his master’s of education degree.

Gerald was a teacher, coach and administrator for many years. His career took him to places like Stanton, Rochelle, Christoval, Lometa, Santa Anna and Llano.

After retirement, he and Jean Ann moved to the Lake Buchanan area. Gerald was an active man who loved sports and being outside.

Gerald was preceded in death by his younger brother, Norman “Smokey” Brister.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Ann Brister of Burnet; daughters Debra Rathke (Bennie) and Deidra Brister, all of Burnet; sister, Barbara Allen (Bernie) of Lake Jackson; three granddaughters, Randi Gustafson (Carl), Jaci Rathke and Kami Rathke (Enrique Suarez); three great-grandchildren, Autumn Gustafson, Cason Duecker and Tripp Rathke; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Family viewing was held June 14 at Sneed Funeral Home in Lampasas. Graveside funeral service was June 14 at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
