The Citizens of Kempner group will host a workday and fundraiser at the Kempner Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday.
Event organizer Annelicia Campbell said the fundraiser and workday will begin at 9 a.m. at the fire station at 315 Pecan St. in Kempner.
The workday will serve to install benches and decking at the fire station, which Campbell said will be additions that will require minimal future maintenance.
The event will include a dunking booth, in which several city officials, fire department volunteers and Citizens of Kempner volunteers will be participating, as well as a lunch by donation.
Campbell said all the proceeds of the fundraiser will go towards fire department needs.
“They are leasing a truck from the county and we hope to raise $5,000 to get the sirens, lights and decals so they can actually start using it,” she said.
Additional funding will be used to provide emergency medical technician training and equipment for four firefighters.
“They do an amazing job stretching what funding they do have,” Campbell said. “We hope to turn this into an annual event.”
Citizens of Kempner T-shirts will also be on sale to provide funding for the organization’s nonprofit status application, she said.
