Traffic on U.S. Highway 190 heading east out of Lampasas County will be redirected through Copperas Cove due to an accident on the bypass bridge.
Copperas Cove Police Department officials said that Monday at 6:32 a.m., police and fire units responded to the long bridge on the U.S. 190 bypass after a vehicle collision was reported.
According to police, a Hyundai sedan was traveling westbound on the bypass and an 18-wheeler Freightliner truck and trailer was traveling eastbound.
“The Hyundai crossed into the oncoming traffic lane and struck the Freightliner head on,” officials reported.
The driver of the Hyundai was transported by Air Evac to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple with apparent severe injuries. The driver of the Freightliner was transported to an AdventHealth hospital by Copperas Cove EMS with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
“The bridge sustained damage to the guardrail during the crash, and the bypass will be closed while [Texas Department of Transportation] completes repairs,” officials said. “The length of time for closure is undetermined at this time, pending crash site clearing and repair/replacement of bridge rail.”
Eastbound and westbound Interstate 14 traffic at Copperas Cove will be detoured temporarily to Business 190 through the city.
