The Lampasas Fire Department invites the public to join the department at the fire station, located at 1107 E. Fourth St., on Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. to honor 86-year-old Donnell “Duck” Rathman.
During this event, there will be a presentation to honor Rathman for his achievements. Light refreshments will be served.
Rathman joined the Lampasas Volunteer Fire Department when he was just 16 years old in February 1949. As soon as he was old enough, he went to work for the Fort Hood Fire Department and retired there after 20 years of service.
While he worked for the Fort Hood Fire Department, he continued to be a volunteer for the Lampasas Volunteer Fire Department. As he has for the past 70 years, he continues to serve the community. To date, he has not missed a meeting or a drill.
