The Lampasas Police Department has identified the 60-year-old man who drowned Monday in what police believe to be an accident.
Jose Angel Torres, a Lampasas resident, drowned in the Hancock Springs Free-Flow pool after police said he got in to swim at 10:30 p.m. that evening and didn’t get out.
“He had climbed a tree and jumped in,” LPD Sgt. Nick Roberts said.
A relative was with Torres, and he made the emergency call, Roberts said.
“Lampasas EMS and Fire attempted to resuscitate him for some time,” Roberts said.
The man was pronounced dead at 11:14 p.m. by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Andrew Garcia.
No autopsy was ordered, but “we have additional tests pending,” Roberts said.
Testing will be conducted at the Texas DPS Crime Lab in Waco.
Other factors may have been involved, and the incident is still under investigation, Roberts added. There is no suspicion of foul play.
