With large wildfires ongoing in areas surrounding the county, several organizations are accepting donations to assist the various fire departments involved.
On Saturday, the Keepin It Local group will offer a drive-up donation event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Twisted Oak Grille, 300 South U.S. Highway 281 in Lampasas.
Organizer Donna Cockrell said donations also will be taken to assist animals that had to be removed from fire-ravaged areas and moved to cattle and horse stables.
And for those unable to stop by on Saturday, the Lampasas County Extension Office at 409 S. Pecan Suite 102 in downtown Lampasas will accept donations weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. This collection is sponsored by Lampasas 4-H and County Council.
Items requested to aid firefighters as they work in the hot conditions include:
• pocket-size snacks (no chocolate) such as protein bars
• beef jerky
• flavoring packets for bottled water, bottled water and Gatorade
• hand wipes
• eye drops
• lip balm and sunscreen
• bandannas or neck wraps
Monetary donations to assist with repairs to equipment and vehicles also would be appreciated.
