A two-vehicle wreck Monday morning in Kempner claimed the life of a Copperas Cove man. The crash occurred in the 12700 block of U.S. Highway 190.

Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office was notified at 7:15 a.m. about the collision, officials said.
Trooper Nestor Reyes of the Texas Department of Public Safety in Hamilton was the lead investigator and gave this account of what happened.
Anthony Gilbert James Carey, 34, was driving west from Copperas Cove in a 1991 Nissan mid-size pickup. He pulled over onto the westbound improved shoulder and attempted to make a U-turn, so he could return to Copperas Cove. But the pickup turned in front of a westbound 2002 Nissan delivery truck driven by Koffigan Jose Djondo of Fort Worth. As a result, the box truck T-boned the driver’s side of the pickup.
