Several Lampasas-area athletes competed in the Texas High School Rodeo Association state finals June 6-12 in Abilene, but they were unable to place. Riggen Hughes did not post a score in bull riding, and he finished with eight season points. He had been third in Region 3.

Lampasas and Georgetown had two fairly evenly matched games to kick off a month-long 7-on-7 league in Georgetown on Monday. Against the Eagles’ Second Team, Lampasas scored three touchdowns and allowed two.

Former Lady Badger accepts volleyball position at alma mater

Christy Wiley is returning as LHS head volleyball coach, a role she held from 1999 to 2006. She will replace Whitney Doyen, who led the Lady Badgers for the past two seasons. Doyen will be an assistant volleyball and basketball coach at Georgetown East View.

McCarter places at nationals; next come Olympic Trials

Steffin McCarter took fifth in long jump at the NCAA outdoor nationals in his last track meet as a Texas Longhorn. McCarter also ran on the 4x100-meter relay, which advanced to the finals with a seventh-place finish in the semifinals on Wednesday. The sprint relay finals are scheduled for June 11.
