Longtime restaurateur, IraDell Storm, dies at 97

01/06/2009

Robbie IraDell Storm, cofounder of Storm's Restaurants, died Jan. 1, 2009, following a short illness. She was 97. Funeral services were Jan. 4 at First Street Church of Christ, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. In Mrs. Storm's honor, Storm's Drive-in of Lampasas closed for the service.

Museum

Lampasas County Museum Foundation Inc. will hold its annual meeting on Monday at 6 p.m. at 303 S. Western St. for its general membership and board of directors. Agenda items include a review of 2008 accomplishments and goal-setting for 2009. Presentations will be made to participants of the 2008 Christmas Tour of Homes.

LEDC study

The Lampasas Economic Development Corp. will offer a retail trade study, "Are you maximizing your sales potential?" to help local businesses find new sales avenues. The committee for Project Graduation for the Lampasas High School Class of 2009 will meet Monday at 6 p.m. at the Hanna Springs Intermediate School library. Parents interested in working to raise funds and plan for the allnight, drug-free, alcohol-free party for seniors are encouraged to attend.

The new statewide "Twogether in Texas" healthy marriage initiative is offering $60 off Lampasas County couple's marriage license fee if the couple attends a free eight-hour secular healthy marriage workshop. A workshop will be held in Lampasas on Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Tyson's Corner Retreat, 1135 CR 1045.

It's a girl! Bo and Laura Sharp of Driftwood announce the birth of their daughter, Kate Marie, born Nov. 19, 2008, at 11:37 a.m. at Seton Hospital in Austin. Upon arrival, Kate weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches in length.

Scholarships available for new students

Tarleton State University- Central Texas is offering scholarships for new students who enroll full-time in the spring 2009 term. First-time Tarleton-Central Texas students are eligible to apply for the scholarships, which are $750 each. Undergraduate students must enroll in at least 15 credit hours, and graduate students in at least 12 credit hours.

Artist to offer demo at area gallery

Highland Lakes Art Gallery will host Betty Jameson of Austin on Jan. 15 at 9:30 a.m. at the gallery. Ms. Jameson will demonstrate a mixed-media, staining technique including watercolor. The artist earned a bachelor of arts in art and education from the University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, Wash., and a master's degree from the University of Hawaii.
