Maurine Biles Wright, 89, of Houston died on Nov. 7, 2024.
She was born on Jan. 30, 1935, in Buda to Maurine Crow Biles and Jeff Davis Biles.
She grew up in San Marcos, attending San Marcos High School where she was a leader of the Student Council and a majorette.
She attended the University of Texas at Austin in 1957 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in education. It was there she met her husband, Darrell Wright.
Maurine served as an elementary school teacher for 23 years.
She was a member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church and cherished her time with her Bible study group whom she remained close with until her death.
Her interests included traveling, reading, playing bridge with friends and her garden club. Her friends described her as beautiful, loving, fun, wise and warm. Maurine’s vibrant energy, quick wit and abundant faith kept her embracing life’s adventures until the very end.
Maurine leaves a strong legacy of love, faith and joy. She treasured every moment with her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, who lovingly called her “Bebe.”
She is survived by her son, Darby Wright, and his wife, Tammy, and their children Travis Wright (Lacette) and Kayleigh Bryan (Will); her daughter, Laura Shoppa, and her husband, Chris, and their children Will Shoppa (Caroline), Madison Davis (Dietrich) and Mackenzie Moore (Preston); and nine great-grandchildren, Hunt, Mackenzie, Henry, Campbell, Eloise, Wright, McCreary, Liam and Fyora.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 16 at Nix Cemetery in Lampasas. A reception will follow at Nix Community Center after the service. Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas has charge of arrangements.
Additionally, a celebration of her life will be held in Houston at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 19 at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. After the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the parlor.
