Floydell was born on March 15, 1942, in Burnet to Floyd A. Ferguson and Jessie Estis Appleton Ferguson. She grew up in the Burnet area until her family moved to Houston.
Years later, the family returned to Central Texas and made their home in Briggs. Floydell attended Briggs High School until she graduated in 1960.
She married James Torbett “Harpo” Pierce on Aug. 19, 1961, at Oakalla Baptist Church. They made their home on the Lampasas River in Oakalla and lived there for over 60 years.
She was a devoted wife and mother to two sons, James Lendol Pierce and John Torbett Pierce, and a “surrogate mother” and bed-and-breakfast to any Oakalla kids and school friends James and Torbett brought home. She was as a wonderful cook. Her kitchen was open to all, and no one left hungry after sitting at Flo’s table.
Floydell loved being with family and friends, and greatly enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed country life gardening, puttering in the yard with her plants and flowers, and tending to the cows, goats, puppies and various orphaned animal babies that fell into her lap. There wasn’t anything that Flo couldn’t make live.
Floydell was preceded in death by her brother, Buddy Ferguson; sisterin- law, Dodie Ferguson; brother-in-law, Jim Carlilie; and a greatgrandson, Whitt Michael Martin.
She is survived by her husband, James Torbett Pierce; children James Lendol Pierce (Marilee) of Lampasas, and John Torbett Pierce (Guiselle) of Temple; grandchildren Jacie Martin (Justin) of Eldorado, Breck Pierce of Leander, Robert Pierce (Monica) of Wylie, and Quinn Pierce of Wylie; great-grandchildren Gracie Martin, Eisley Pierce, Norah Pierce and Conor Pierce; her sister, Judy Carlile of Burnet; and several nieces and nephews.
