Debby Petronis died on March 6, 2026 after a brief illness. She was 75 years old.
Fulton Family Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Debra Lee “Debby” Simmons Petronis was born and raised in Amarillo. She attended Baylor University and graduated with a degree in education. While there, she met her husband, Joe. They moved to Lampasas in 1981 and were married for 53 years.
Debby was a stay-at-home mom for many years, raising their three children Amie, Jody and Joby. Then, her love of children led her to Lampasas ISD where she worked mainly in the elementary school library. For the past 13 years, “Miss Debby” was at the First Baptist Church preschool where she enjoyed greeting the kids each morning.
Debby spent most of her time outdoors in her garden growing wildflowers. She loved chatting with friends and neighbors as well as volunteering in the Lampasas community. She was a kind and caring soul who made everyone feel welcomed.
Her grandchildren loved their “DeDe” and looked forward to visiting with her. During basketball season, one could find her rooting for the Baylor Bears.
She is survived by her husband, Joe; daughter Amie (Eric) Plumley, and grandchildren Phoebe and Frank; son Jody (Mary) Petronis, and grandsons JR and Tommy; and daughter Joby Weninger and granddaughter Nelda.
To honor her memory, the family suggested others plant wildflowers, blow some dandelions and spend time in nature.
