Sharon Rae McGehee, 81, died June 24, 2025, at her home in Lampasas.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church on June 30 at noon, with visitation an hour prior. Interment will be at Greenwood Memorial Park in Fort Worth.
Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel has charge of arrangements.
Sharon was born on March 10, 1944, in Kermit to Raymond Ray and Myrtle Whitenton Taylor. She grew up in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School in 1962.
Sharon married Phillip Lovic Burnette in 1962, and they were together until his death in 1977, living in Fort Worth.
In 1978, she married Jerry McGehee, and they were together until his death in 2014.
Sharon and Jerry moved to Lampasas in 1990, where they also spent 10 years living on the Colorado River outside Colorado Bend State Park.
Jerry and Sharon were longtime members of First Baptist Church in Lampasas, where Sharon taught first-grade Sunday School, mentoring many young Lampasans. Sharon also was involved at Lampasas Mission, and worked as a substitute teacher for kindergarten and first-grade students for four years.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Sarah Laporte, and her nephew, Buddy Ray York.
Sharon is survived by her three children: Suzanne Laporte of Washington, D.C.; Phillip “Vic” Burnette of Lampasas, and Bradley Burnette of Lampasas. She also is survived by her sister, Sue King of Lampasas; and grandchildren Phillip L. Burnette, Michael Laporte, George Laporte and Chris Laporte.
