Mrs. Kovach

Margareta Kovach, 88, died Nov. 28, 2025.

She was born on April 17, 1937, in Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany to Josef and Barbara Ernst. Raised during wartime in Bischberg, Germany, Margareta learned early the values of strength, resilience and familyqualities that would guide her throughout her life.

In her early twenties, she met the love of her life, American soldier Robert Kovach. They married in Germany and welcomed four children before moving to the United States when Margareta was 26. She embraced her new life with devotion as an Army wife, mother and homemaker, staying active in every community she called home.

Margareta was known for her friendly personality and was always eager to talk with anyone she met. She had a natural ability to make others feel welcome.

Having lived in Lampasas County for more than 30 years, she became a familiar face throughout the area. During Spring Ho, she was often selected as a BBQ Cook-off judge, a role she enjoyed immensely.

She will be remembered by her family for her giving heart, her love of sending cards for every occasion, and her cooking -- especially her authentic German dishes and chicken and dumplings prepared with love.

Margareta is survived by her children Robert Kovach and wife Sherry of Nipomo, California, Sonja Jackson of Kempner, Texas, Barbara Wilson and husband Mickey of Casa Grande, Arizona, and Kathleen Kovach, also of Casa Grande, Arizona; 15 grandchildren; 22 greatgrandchildren; and nine greatgreat- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kovach, and her greatgrandson, Calvin Lohmann-Yale.

Margareta’s funeral service was held Dec. 5. Heritage Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
