Ann Moore Johnson died on Feb. 27, 2025 at her home in Lampasas.
She was born on Sept. 4, 1937 to W.T. and Cora Moore. Ann grew up on the family ranch and learned the value of hard work, humility and resilience. She enjoyed the wide-open spaces with her two sisters as playmates and developed a passion for ranching.
She was involved in every aspect of high school. She was voted class favorite three of her four years of high school, and was runner-up the fourth year.
Ann married Dick Johnson, her high school sweetheart, and they were married 64 years. They first lived in the Mt. Pleasant area, and their first son was born there. They then moved to Eastland, where the other two sons were born.
Ann worked for Eastland National Bank until her retirement after 32 years. After retirement, she and Dick moved back to Lampasas and ranching. Ann loved her cattle and many of them had names. She was passionate about the land and its preservation. She spent many a day sitting in the skid steer taking out her personal vendetta on cedar and mesquite trees.
When Ann was not ranching, she spent time with friends of which there were many. She was involved in The Red Hat Society, The ’36 Club, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and the Presbyterian Women's Group. She also enjoyed lunches with the Cousin's Group.
Ann grew up in Lampasas’ First Presbyterian Church. She served in many capacities, including serving as a deacon. The wreaths on the church doors were her creation, and they were changed with the seasons.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband Dick and her oldest son Lee and wife Lori.
She is survived by her son Kevin and wife Felicia of Hillsboro, and son Dave and wife Shayne of Austin; grandchildren Evan, Connor, Katherine and husband Matt Roberts, and Brian and wife Vicky and their daughters Anna Belle and Ruby Lee; her sisters Jane Gamel of Austin, and Doris and husband Jim Faubion of Marble Falls; sister-in-law Sue and husband Donald Bousquet of Belton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and Robert Edwards and his extended family.
Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 10:30 a.m. on March 15. Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Building Fund or a charity of one’s choice.
