Mrs. Banks

Margaret Jane Banks died on Sept. 10, 2025.

“Jane” was born to Frances “Fannie” and Lonnie Taylor on Feb. 9, 1933, in Hill County, Texas.

She moved to Austin at a very young age and attended Austin schools from Baker Elementary through Austin High. It was there she made sure to “catch the eye” of a tall lanky boy she saw as she gazed up the stairwell. Story has been told that she strolled slowly as to “allow” Bill Banks to catch up with her.

Jane left Southwest Texas State Teachers College to marry Bill in April 1952. She worked to support Bill in finishing his education and then began raising their three children. They were married for 64 years at the time of his death in May 2016.

Jane is survived by a daughter, Allison Banks Johnson and husband, Daniel, of Pearsall, and their children Julie Hubbard (Danny) and Jessica Rodriquez (Jose “Gomer”); a son, Dr. William J. Banks and wife, Dr. Cheryl Sebesta Banks, of Billings, Montana, and their children Dr. Kristen Banks Beaver (Dr. Jared), William Austin Banks, and Dr. Emily Banks; and a daughter-in-law, Marianne Landers Banks, of Lampasas and her children Brianna Barksdale (Steven), Marissa Banks Hardin (Dr. Casey), and Aubrey Banks.

She was a devoted “Granny” to her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, and a loving “Aunt Jane” to nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Eugene Banks; a son, Brian Banks; a granddaughter, Heather Banks; sisters Tommie Weaver and Myra Kerr; and a nephew, Steve Weaver.

Memorial service was held at Weed-Corley Fish Funeral Home in Austin on Sept. 18 at 4 p.m.
