Gary Phillip “Phil” McCullough, 77, died on Dec. 17, 2025, in Bertram.
Services will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas on Dec. 23 at 1 p.m., with a graveside service to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Phil was born in Fort Worth on June 3, 1948, to John Allen and Hattye Clara McCullough.
He grew up in White Settlement, Texas, where he enjoyed playing baseball and football. Phil graduated from Brewer High School in 1966.
After graduation, he worked at General Dynamics in Fort Worth assembling F-111s.
Phil enlisted in the Marines in June 1968 and served until October 1969. He was deployed to Vietnam and received a Purple Heart.
Then, he attended Sam Houston State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in education. He was a coach and teacher in Willis, Lampasas, Ingram and Copperas Cove.
Phil enjoyed vacationing at the beach, deer hunting, listening to oldies music, volunteering at local nursing homes and spending time with his grandchildren. He had a heart for charities and donated to many. He lived in Lampasas for almost 40 years.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his son, Matthew McCullough; his daughter, Bonnie Cattles; son-in-law, Kenneth Cattles Jr.; grandsons Barrett Cattles and Blake Cattles; his sister, Rebel Burris, and husband Phil Burris; his niece, Mandy Jenkins, and her family; and his nephew, Josh Burris, and his family.
