Michael Ray Jones, age 60, died on Nov. 17, 2024, at Seton Hospital in Austin.
He was born on Dec. 11, 1963, in Houston to Don and Kay Fowler Jones.
Michael grew up in Bryan and Lampasas. He graduated from Lampasas High School in 1982.
He attended Howard Payne University, UTArlington and Central Texas College in Killeen.
Michael married Wendy Windham in 1992, and together they had a son, Kramer W. Jones, in April 1993. In March 2010, Michael married Gretchen M. Thomas.
Throughout his life, Michael embraced a spirit of adventure. He owned a motorcycle and competed in dirt bike races and raced cars. He also piloted his own airplane for both business and recreational purposes, and ran a successful machine shop. Michael also was the founder of a finance and insurance business in Austin that employed up to 17 people.
Among his greatest accomplishments, Michael cherished his role as a father, son, grandfather, brother, uncle and husband. He had a legacy of faith in the Lord, hard work and family commitment.
Michael was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bryan, Cameron and Lampasas. He placed his trust in Jesus at the age of 10 and became a witness to those he came in contact with.
Michael was preceded in death by his fraternal grandparents, Carlton and Velma Jones, and maternal grandparents, Leonard and Mineola Fowler.
He is survived by his wife, Gretchen M. Jones; son, Kramer Jones, and daughter-in-law, Marissa Jones; grandson, Lawson Jones; parents, Don and Kay Jones; a brother, Glenn Scott Jones, and sister-in-law, Anna Jones, along with their children Eli, Jack and Lily Amerine; his sister, Donna Brown, and her children Summer Hinch, Noah Brown and Kyle Grizzle; his aunt and uncle Martha and Bob Witcher; a great-nephew, Brent Witcher, and greatniece, Heather Witcher.
A funeral service will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas on Nov. 24. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., with the service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Straley Cemetery in Adamsville.
Memorial donations may be made to the Round Rock Children’s Home or School Creek Baptist Church.
