Tony Gamez, 68, died on Oct. 9, 2024, at his home in Lampasas.
The Knights of Columbus of St. Mary will pray a Holy Rosary on Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas. Visitation will follow until 8 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held Oct. 19 at St. Mary Catholic Church at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Tony was born on Dec. 17, 1955, to Juan and Maria De Jesus Gamez in San Antonio, where he enjoyed his childhood with his large family. The family moved to Blanco, where he began high school.
Tony graduated from Blanco High School in 1974. After high school, he worked in different fields until 1978, when he moved to Echo Hill Ranch in Kerrville and became foreman of the ranch.
On Jan. 1, 1980, Tony met the love of his life, Clara Torrez, who became his wife on Feb. 2, 1980. They were married for 44 years and welcomed nine children to the family.
Tony and Clara moved to Lampasas in 1984. He worked in construction until starting at Oil States Industries in 1987, working there until 2007. He worked in various positions until 2013, when he began working at Entegris Inc. in Burnet. He became a blending engineer and took pride in his work. He worked at Entegris until April 2024 when he became ill.
Tony was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He enjoyed being a lector and a minister of Holy Communion which he took to homebound parishioners. He was very active in A.C.T.S missions, helping on several retreats where he grew spiritually.
Tony was devoted to his wife and children. He also was an avid sports fan and a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. His other interests were music, fishing, hunting, softball, washer pitching, gardening, chess, playing the lottery, collecting caps and building barbecue pits. He will be remembered for his brisket and hot sauce.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings and infant twin sisters, Alex, Rodger, Johnny, Katy, and his nephew Bobby J.
Tony is survived by his wife, Clara; sons Mark (Liz), Matthew, Tony Jr., Andy (Jordyn) and Adam; daughters Michelle, Amanda (Anthony), Carlie (Benjamin) and Cierra; grandchildren Lysette, Alyssa, Nathaniel, Anthony, Tristan, Lauren, Lacey, Ariana, Uriah, Jaxon, Elijah, Coraline and Asher; siblings Grace, Orlando (Patricia), Arlene and Roland “Dino” (Cindy) Gamez; numerous nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
