Mr. Cox

Franklin David Cox of Lampasas died, surrounded by family, on Oct. 31, 2023.

David was born in Lake Victor, Burnet County, to Elmer and Lola Cox.

The large family moved to Lampasas, where David graduated from high school.

David enlisted in the U.S. Army and served overseas during the Korean War.

After leaving the service, David married and started his family in Waco, where he and his first wife owned and operated David and Beverly’s Hair Salon.

In 1973, he married Linda “Kay” (Malcik) Cox. The family moved to Lampasas to live on their cattle ranch in 1982 and opened Kay’s Hair Salon. He retired in 2004 and spent the remainder of his life tending to his cattle and maintaining the ranch.

David was predeceased by his parents and all seven of his siblings.

He was survived by his wife Kay, who later died on Feb. 18, 2025.

He is also survived by his children, Cheri Cox Doyle and husband Patrick Doyle of Austin, John Cox of Austin, and Lea Sanders of Hillsboro; and grandchildren Elizabeth Doyle of Poulsbo, Washington, and Cameron Steele of Hillsboro, Texas.

A joint memorial service will be held for David and Kay Cox at a future date.
