Doyle Rex Walker, 87, of Lampasas died on Jan. 26, 2023 in Temple.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 1 at First Street Church of Christ, with Kevin Haynes to officiate. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 31 at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas.
Doyle was born Jan. 21, 1936 in Newlin, Texas to D.T. and Olean (Rawls) Walker, but he considered Estelline, Texas his hometown.
In 1955, he graduated from Estelline High School as a decorated athlete and married Barbara (Smith) Walker. They celebrated 67 years of marriage this past August.
Doyle and Barbara went to West Texas State University in Canyon, where Doyle played football on a full scholarship.
Doyle went on to coach and teach at Killeen ISD in 1959.
In 1965, he began working with Morale Sports at Fort Hood as a civil servant. He spent most of his career as the director of Morale Sports and received many Presidential Awards for Excellence.
After retirement, he opened Piddler Creek Nursery in Lampasas.
He was a member of Second Street Church of Christ in Killeen for many years and enjoyed teaching a Bible class. He then attended First Street Church of Christ in Lampasas.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and working his small farm in Lampasas.
Doyle was preceded in death by his brothers J.T. Walker and Garland Walker, and sister, Billie Vaughan.
Doyle is survived by his wife, Barbara Walker of Lampasas; brothers David Walker and Gary Walker; sister, Linda Craven; son, Greg Walker; daughter, Kim Chapman and husband Gary; grandchildren Hailee Walker, Ashlee Eskola, Katie Shannon, Madeline Miller and Morgan King; greatgrandchildren Kamryn, Kolvin, Josslyn, Abigail, Oliver and Violet; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
